Statement on HS2 approval from the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire LEP
Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership chairman Alun Rogers said:
If HS2 is delivered in full as we anticipate then this is excellent news for Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire. It will not only bring millions of pounds’ worth of investment to our area but also crucially free up capacity and improve our existing rail network.
Having an efficient and effective rail network is essential for ongoing economic growth both for passenger and freight transportation. One of our strengths as an area is fantastic connectivity and to build on this means we will be an even more attractive location to invest and create jobs.
Working with our partners, including local authorities and Midlands Connect, we will make sure we get the best out of HS2 for Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire. We will also continue to press for the complete delivery of the scheme as it is about much more than quicker links to the south east.”
