LEP seeks business person to join our board

The Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership is seeking a new business member to join its board to help deliver its ambitious plans for jobs, skills and growth across the area.
“The person we need will be an established figure in business who is willing and able to bring their skills and experience to support and improve the local economy,” said LEP chairman David Frost CBE.
“The board works as a team and members take a lead on particular areas. We are particularly keen to recruit a member with an interest in development and transport.”
The Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire LEP was one of the first to be approved by the government in October 2010. Since then, the board has been busy working with businesses and public sector partners and has identified a range of key initiatives and outcomes it is seeking to achieve focused on creating jobs and growth. It aims to create 50,000 new jobs over 10 years.
The LEP’s Strategic Plan has allowed it to secure government and EU funding and create programmes to support economic growth across the area. The City and Growth Deal package it secured alone amounts to £237.58m.
The board brings together business, universities, colleges, and local Authorities in support of common objectives. The LEP is able to access government at the highest level and has a real influence on areas such as skills, infrastructure, European programmes and business support.
Recent successes have included the development of a series of Advanced Manufacturing Skills Hubs across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire, including sites in Stoke, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Rodbaston and Tamworth and the soon to be completed Lichfield Park employment site access.
The LEP also operates a Growth Hub business support and mentoring service, which was one of the first in the country, and runs a Business Helpline telephone advice service.
Business people interested in joining the board can visit our website at www.stokestaffslep.org.uk for an insight into our work and a person specification.
Applicants should submit a short CV outlining their experience and capabilities to chair@stokestaffslep.org.uk marked “Board Vacancies”. The closing date for applications is December 31.
